I've witnessed scrum and agile transform both development programs as well as my personal task/life management, and I am absolutely convinced it can be leveraged for more general business processes. Much is written about agile teams and companies, but few examples of truly agile are publicized. We kicked off a new initiative this week and the entire team is leveraging scrum from the start.
The team seemed extremely enthusiastic after I ran a quick introduction to agile. I did a generic explanation of 3 ceremonies and 3 artifacts with emphasis on the planning benefits of a stable velocity. I always make a strong point about the social psychology that backs up much of the agile philosophy. Great stuff.
Very motivating to see a large, cross functional team embrace a new way of doing things right from the onset. I'm anticipating this team will become a asset unto itself.
